Blog 6 – Web Scraper

When scraping twitter for the phrase “online privacy”, I discovered that young people rarely ever talk about the topic, and when they do it’s either dismissive or accepting of the role it plays in their lives. It seems that socially, whether it’s their own online privacy or the concept generally, young people refer to it jokingly, if at all.

User hautecoopture jovially says that Google is “a good friend” in response to online privacy scares, while user PapiChulo_KD thinks that data collection is an obvious part of day-to-day life.

This aligns with some of the responses I received from my semi-structured interview, and overall denotes a real and present level of disengagement from young people with the concept.
